Get Off Your Hands, and Get to Work with Naunnie

I didn't know either of my grandmothers well; so I've always had an admiration - and candidly, fascination - with the grandparent relationship.

I watch my Mom and daughter, and am bowled over by their dynamic. My past and future bound together with so much love.

That's why when I was interviewing Amanda Mays for her episode, and she was fawning over her lovely Naunnie, the words were out of my mouth before I could realize what I had said. 

"Will Naunnie join us on the show?"

We laughed, wrapped the episode, and then two weeks later I get an email that, "Naunnie is in!"

It was a gift - truly - to sit down across generation to hear family stories that had never been unearthed before; and to watch as a granddaughter took in the life and struggles that made the woman she calls Naunnie.
