What is work, and more importantly, how do you make it work for you? I found myself wrestling with this question only a few weeks into starting a new company. My week left me feeling uninspired, overwhelmed and questioning what the hell I was doing?
Halfway through I called an audible, and really asked myself what would make me happy. Before I could even process the thought I scribbled down, "To remove all meetings until February." Then, I did the damn thing - I CANCELLED THEM ALL!
It was muscle memory took over. I was creating days and weeks that looked like my old work, without taking a moment to process that the work of today was not the work of my past. I consider myself self-aware and reflective yet without missing a beat, I fell into what so many of us do - living a life out of habit over intention.
So, I channelled the advice of my guest and new friend, Lorrie Thomas Ross, and said, "This does not work - for me." The inclusion of that little clause "for me," has been so powerful to reframe the narrative of what does and does not serve me, and remove guilt over saying as much. Try it, it'll change your life.
